Fundraising for your local National Trust Properties

National Trust “Wish List”.
This is an annual list, produced by local National Trust properties, of small items or projects that would help to improve their visitor experience.

In 2017, in conjunction with the Day Trips, Holidays and Walks groups, we were able to donate £7,300 to the next “Wish List”; details of recent donations can be seen below, and will also be in future newsletters.

In previous years this fundraising has paid for outdoor seating at Goddards and children’s trikes and play equipment at Beningbrough, amongst many other items and improvements.

Fountains Hall

Committee members were invited to Fountains Abbey to see the improvements made to the summerhouse in the herb garden at Fountains Hall. The conservation of one of the original summerhouse windows was paid for by YANT fund raising activities so it was very much appreciated that we were invited to see the improvements and to enjoy a cup of tea in the autumn sunshine.

Other fundraising activities have enabled us to make a donation to the NT Moors and Dales appeal and as you will see below, the Walks Group were invited to see some of the work that has been undertaken at Hudswell Woods, Richmond.
Hudswell Woods, Richmond

The Walks Group committee members were invited by Seb. Mankelow, a NT Ranger, to see how YANT fund raising had helped to improve Hudswell Woods, Richmond.

The project aims to restore an area of NT owned grassland to encourage the growth of wild flowers and other wildlife. The Trust is using Belted Galloway cattle to graze the grassland in winter to give the native wild flower species a chance to thrive. Our donation has been used to help replace broken fences surrounding the fields and woodland and also to replace stiles with kissing gates, thus making the land more accessible to the public.

The NT is starting to spend more money on rural conservation projects and the rangers were very grateful for our donation. In the future, with our help, the grassland at Hudswell should be able to rival the hay meadows further up Swaledale.  See https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/

Hudswell Woods and Upper Wharfedale donations
"I have just been informed of your generous donation to Hudswell Woods and Upper Wharfedale and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and your members.
The replacement fencing and kissing gate work will be carried out at Hudswell Woods this year and the money will go towards funding the materials needed. The stone to make a seat at the summit of Buckden Pike will be purchased ready for when the work is scheduled in.
Should you wish to visit the Dales to see the completed work please do get back to me and I'll arrange for you to meet with the Rangers.
Donations like these really do make all the difference to the work we can carry out across the estate so thank you once again for your kind donations."

Donation for Nostell
"Just wanted to say a massive thank you for the donation of £3000 from the York Association, I really appreciate your continued support for Nostell.
This year, as you will know, is Chippendales tercentenary birthday celebrations and we are doing great things here at Nostell to celebrate the "Shakespeare of Furniture"; in July we will be opening our new Chippendale Exhibition and I will ensure an invite is sent out for yourself or another member of the Association Committee to come along. As part of the Chippendale programme we have been working through and prioritising key pieces of the Nostell collection we want to conserve and restore. Sarah Crane our House Manager is putting together a project list and once we are clear on exactly what your funds will be spent on we will come back and let you know.
Please do keep in touch and if there is anything further we can do to support the York Association please give me a shout."
