Sicily has become one of Europe’s best-loved destinations in recent years and it is truly an island of the senses but also a place with a unique history.
Our tour begins at the GrecoRoman city of Taormina and on the slopes of Mount Etna, Europe’s highest volcano and still active. We continue to Tindari for more classical remains and Piazza Armerina where we discover some amazingly well-preserved Roman mosaics. The ‘Valley of the Temples’ is a UNESCO World Heritage site, one of the greatest legacies of ancient Greece.
We continue to Palermo, a melting pot of many different civilisations and cultures, and the magnificent Benedictine abbey at Monreale, before concluding in Syracuse, another UNESCO site, described by Cicero as "the greatest Greek city and the most beautiful of them all".
Our two-centre tour of Austria promises to be one of the most scenic holidays we have ever had, such is the splendour of this stunning landscape of glittering lakes and snow-capped mountains.
We begin in Bregenz, a little town at the eastern end of Lake Constance, from where we have a gentle guided walk around a picturepostcard village, cruise on the lake to Insel Mainau, one of the most spectacular gardens to be found in Europe, and explore a brace of impressive palaces.
We then transfer via the famous ski resort of GarmischPartenkirchen to the Tyrol region of Austria and our hotel in the Ziller Valley. From here we explore the beautiful old town of Innsbruck and the vaulted halls of Tratzberg Castle, and take a steam train ride along the Ziller Valley, flanked on either side by towering mountains, for an unforgettable lunch at the foot of the Hintertux glacier.
